Sierra Nevada Journeys
Sean Hill is the CEO of Sierra Nevada Journeys, a Reno-based nonprofit dedicated to delivering innovative, science-based outdoor education programs for students across Northern Nevada and Northern California. With 17 years at the organization — beginning as a hands-on educator and rising through roles in program design, fundraising, and executive leadership — Sean has been at the heart of Sierra Nevada Journeys' growth from a grassroots effort into a regional leader in experiential education.
Under his leadership, the organization has served tens of thousands of students annually, with a deep commitment to equity: the majority of students served come from low-income families and communities of color. Most recently, Sean helped spearhead a landmark partnership with Feather River Land Trust to permanently protect 1,025 acres of forest adjacent to the organization's Outdoor Education Camp in Plumas County — expanding what is already an extraordinary living classroom for young scientists.
Sean holds a Master of Science in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources and Environmental Education from Colorado State University and a B.S. in Environmental Biology from Montana State University. He is also a certified Strategy Execution fellow through Harvard Business School and serves as Vice Chair of the Washoe County Open Space and Regional Parks Commission. Before joining Sierra Nevada Journeys, he taught high school science through Teach For America in Houston, Texas — where his passion for education equity was first ignited.
